FINALLY!! I finished this new aspect of Writer’s Spotlight Wednesday, and I’m so excited to share it! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard and diligently to make this happen. Today’s WSW features Angela Grant. Check out the video below to learn more about Angela and her inspiring story, 2:7 The Awakening of Love. I hope you enjoy this new WSW, because there is more to come! Let me know what you think.
It’s time for another Writer’s Spotlight Wednesday, but this time, I’m doing it a little differently. As such, you’ll have to wait until next Wednesday, because I’m still preparing. But I promise, it will be good!
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
I vowed that 2014 would be the year that I let my light shine. I’ve always done some type of performance art where I would physically be in the spotlight (on stage, on camera, etc.), but I’ve never really revealed my true self. I’m always biting my tongue or not taking an action for fear of what others might think, or say, or do. I realize that no one is holding me back but me, so I really want to work to break down this wall of “protection” I have around myself so that I can truly shine and be the person that God wants me to be. It’s okay to be great. It’s okay to love me and be me, unapologetically, and that’s what I want to do/be.
I found some songs that inspired me, and that I believe will help to encourage me along this journey and I thought I’d share them. Enjoy!
Valentine’s Day is a holiday (if it even really falls into that category) that always receives mixed reviews. Some people go all out, buying presents and cards and planning elaborate dates and excursions. Others protest, claiming the ridiculousness of the faux holiday and rationalizing that the time and effort put into this one day should be reserved for every day. And even others spend the day locked in their homes crying or gorging on ice cream and cookie dough, watching sappy romance flicks and wondering why they don’t have any plans or anyone to even make plans with.
Regardless of your opinion of Valentine’s Day, and whether you have plans or not, I think the most important thing to remember on this day is the importance of investing time. It doesn’t matter if you are single or in a relationship, time is something we all possess and it is something that is slipping away from each of us. So, this Valentine’s Day, commit to spending time wisely with the things and people you love.
If you are in a relationship, spend quality time with your loved one. You don’t have to spend a lot of money or go on a fancy date. You can have dinner at home or cuddle on the couch watching your favorite movie together. Or you can dance around your home together, or give each other massages. Just spend time with each other without worrying about who forgot to take out the trash or why there’s hair in the sink or why the toilet seat is up again.
If you are single, spend quality time with yourself. Do something special for yourself (and just to be clear, gorging on junk food is NOT special). Take yourself on a date. There’s nothing wrong with going solo to the movies or to dinner. Treat yourself to a spa day. Never underestimate the importance of alone time (aka “me time”), because when you’re in a relationship, those moments are far and few in between.
Remember Valentine’s Day really is just another day and it’s up to you whether you buy into the hype or not. I encourage you to think on those things that are most important to you and on Valentine’s Day (and every day), spend time doing whatever makes you happy.
Valentine’s Day Do’s and Don’ts
-Spend quality time with those things and people you love, including yourself
-Spend an exorbitant amount of money
-Wallow in negativity
-Forget what’s truly important in life
