To quote Bone Thugs N Harmony, “It’s the first of the month…” In accordance w/ my participation in The B-side, here’s a review of my July goals and an update for this month’s goals.
Last Month’s Goals
- Complete homework from Financial Planner.
I have completed two of the three assignments I was given (which is why this goal is partially scratched out).
- Submit entry for specified Writing Contest.
So, I’m still dragging my feet on this one. I fiddled around with my entry again, editing it, but not quite finishing it.
- Read 3 books on my list.
I totally failed on this one. I didn’t even finish ONE! In my defense, I may have erred in the book that I chose to be my first read. I’m the type of person to read a book from cover to cover, literally. I read the foreward, preface, acknowledgments, etc. The first book I chose (How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie) actually suggests that the reader read each chapter twice before moving on to the next, which is what I have been doing. So because of that, it’s taking me a little longer than usual to finish this book, which hindered starting any other books. BUT, I contributed to making a film this month—that counts for something, right?
Same as before—using my time wisely.
Current Successes/Things that are Working
Keeping the TV off. Seriously, I am so much more productive when I don’t turn the TV on. I used to have it on just for “background noise” but I always remained distracted when it was on, not fully focusing on whatever task I was trying to complete. I’ve also been guilty of telling myself, “Oh, I’m just gonna watch this ONE show.” Yeah, then that one show turns into another and another and another, and the next thing I know, it’s midnight and I’ve accomplished nothing. So I’m going to continue to keep the TV off. Anything that I miss I’m sure I can find it and watch it later (thank God for the internet!).
*Basically, I’ll be recycling my goals from last month.
1. Complete final assignment from Financial Planner.
2. Submit entry for specified Writing Contest.
3. Read 2 books on my list. (Maybe 3 was a little ambitious; let’s try 2 this time—finish the current one and start and finish another one)
